LASER-THERAPY: a laser-radiation is a electromagnetic monochromatic coherent radiation, which is produced after the excitation of a liquid substance (Argon, Rodamine etc.) or a solid substance (Neodimium-Yag, Alexandrite, etc.).
A monochromatic radiation has a precise wave-length, and characteristically has a coherent propagation (spread) in the space, that means it does not divert in the space. Different types of Laser are defined from the substance which produce the radiation, and every substance has a precise and permanent wave-length.
Different laser-radiation will be absorbed by different targets in the human body; the targets are the water or the different chromophores in the human tissues ( Hemoglobin, Melanin, tattoo pigment, etc), in fact the different wave-lengths of medical Lasers will be absorbed by the different targets in the body. The absorbed energy of the laser-radiation will cause a “Photo termic effect” with increase of temperature in the tissue and necrosis.
The “Q-switched” lasers allow very short impulse (nano sec.) with very high power, causing a “photo mechanic effect”, with mechanic rupture of the target, without an increase of temperature, lowering the cicatricial side-effect, which is possible with the photo termic lasers.. Another mechanism is the “Photochemical”, which is due to the absorption of Laser-radiation from a photo-sensitized substance, which is applied on a specific region of the body.
This mechanism produces free-radical of oxygen with damage of the target-cells. The so-called “Pulsed Light” is another technology, which is based on the emission of a non monochromatic light radiation (non-Laser), this method is used for similar purpose of laser. The “Pulsed Light” consists in the pulsed emission of high intensity light like a “flash” and with particular filters it is possible to restrict the range of the emitted wave-length. In respect of Laser this particular method is less selective and can cause, slight burns as a side effect. In certain indications, like depilation, the greater size of the hand piece allows a faster depilation of large areas. Doctor Luca Muscardin has two lasers in his office.
1) Nodimium-Yag Q-switched MEDLITE C6 : is a Laser with two wave-lengths, the first of 532 nm and the second of 1064 nm. The indication of this Laser are pigmented lesions ( solar lentigines, cloasma, dermal melanosis) and also tattoos; it is possible to use it for depilation and re-juvination of the face. ...(
